Shamim Shakibai, MD
As Platinum Medical Group’s Chief Medical Officer, Shamim Shakibai, MD, oversees and manages its elite hospitalists that serve the Greater Los Angles Area. Under his guidance, their scope spans five major hospitals, including extremely busy operations at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
In 2006, Dr. Shakibai graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. Shortly thereafter, he completed the rigorous Internal Medicine Residency program at the West Los Angeles Veteran Affairs Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and became board-certified. He also holds certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
His Cedars-Sinai residency began a long, fruitful relationship and he eventually returned as a House Physician. Since then, he has been an Attending Physician there directly involved in the acute care of patients. A natural leader, Dr. Shakibai has also played a key role in the realm of physician advocacy, leading a multidisciplinary team of nurses, dietitians, case managers and social workers on the progression of inpatient care in an effort to optimize efficiency and enhance patient satisfaction.
Dr. Shakibai serves as a diplomate for both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He’s also published research on Fahr’s disease, combined head and abdominal computed tomography for blunt trauma, and trichobezoar—an unusual cause of pancreatitis in a patient with sickle cell anemia.
A firm believer in giving back, Dr. Shakibai is also a proud supporter of the Tahirih Justice Foundation, a non-profit that has served over 25,000 courageous individuals fleeing violence around the world since 1997, and the HistioCure Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding research for a cure to histiocytosis.
Dr. Shakibai encourages his patients to lead an active lifestyle, always touting the benefits of staying fit, and he practices what he preaches. An avid tennis player, Dr. Shakibai also enjoys hiking Southern California’s most challenging beautiful trails.
"Dr. Shakibai walked into my husband’s hospital room and within minutes began putting together a team of specialists that saved his life. He literally gave him another 6 years after we were told he had less than a year to live."
"It is Dr. Shakibai's good decisions and his ability to put together a dynamic team of specialists that has resulted in my mom enjoying quality of life."
"Dr. Shakibai cared not only for my mom but those caring for her too. We were so scared of the unknown, Dr. Shakibai was there whether it was a weekend or in the evening and he was always kind and responsive."
